Artist’s Talk by Agnes Murray - The Scottish Pictures (Art and Life)

with Afternoon Tea and Homemade Shortbread

Saturday, April 4, 2015

2:30 – 4:30 pm

Agnes Murray will give a slide talk centered on art work in the exhibition, Approaching Slains Castle, which includes large-scale monotypes at the core of the exhibit, inspired by the ruined manor house. Contrasting with the ruins of the great house are images inspired by a far more humble neighborhood, Roanheads, in Peterhead, Scotland, not far from Slains Castle. These two sites have inspired the artist through several bodies of work over many years and the juxtaposition itself has provoked thoughts of the lack of sustainability of the old social order in addition to the continuing issues brought into consciousness through the working process.

Ideas, working process, art and life will be interwoven in the narrative of how the work has come about.
